Honorary Life Member Award
Deadline: March 1st Every Year
The Executive Committee of the NAREA shall confer Honorary Life Membership upon those duly recommended members in good standing of the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association who have actively participated in the affairs of the Association and its predecessor organizations as appropriate, and who, while maintaining an active interest in their profession, have recently retired from their formal professional position that comprised the major reason for their initial involvement with the Association. Honorary Life Members shall have all voting rights and privileges of General Members, but shall be exempted from dues payment. Current Honorary Life Members shall be listed in the Journal annually.
Distinguished Member Award
Deadline: March 1st Every Year
The Executive Committee of the NAREA each year at its Fall meeting shall select not more than three members from among those duly nominated and recommended to receive the Distinguished Member Award for the coming year. Eligible candidates shall include all members of the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association in good standing, irrespective of age, sex, and institutional affiliation. Candidates may have teaching, research, extension, administration, government, or business responsibilities or some combination of these responsibilities. To be eligible, each candidate must be nominated by a member in good standing. A member may receive this Award more than once. Those members selected for the Award generally will have made continuous and outstanding contributions to the Association, the region and the profession. The Award will typically recognize members for significant recent professional achievements in the context of an overall meritorious record.
Outstanding Public Service through Economics Award
Deadline: January 31st Every Year
NAREA has an annual Award for Outstanding Public Service through Economics. This award honors and recognizes economists who have applied agricultural, environmental, consumer, resource, or community development economics in a unique way that has contributed toward solving an important problem and improving the welfare of society. Previous recipients have worked on current economic policy, worked as extension agents and have written textbooks that have impacted the field. To nominate an individual for this award, a nomination letter should focus on why the nominee meets the criteria for the award should be sent to the current NAREA President. Nominees will be evaluated on the quality of their work and their demonstrated contribution to improving societal welfare as indicated by the nomination letter. The recipient(s) will be invited to present a keynote address at the annual meeting that will be also published in the Agricultural and Resource Economics Review.
NAREA Conference Scholarships (Previously NAREA Graduate Student Travel Awards)
Deadline: March 1st Every Year
NAREA Conference Scholarships are offered to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to attend the annual NAREA meetings. Each scholarship is equivalent to the annual meeting registration fee, and is intended to help defray the cost of conference attendance. Priority for scholarships will be given to NAREA members and students who are presenting papers or participating in symposia sponsored by NAREA, although others who may benefit from attendance are also encouraged to apply. NAREA Award for the Promotion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Deadline: March 1st Every Year
The NAREA Award for the Promotion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion recognizes a member of the NAREA community who has consistently gone above and beyond to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within our professional community. The service must consistently exceed the work generally considered to be part of the candidate’s professional obligation (for example, service on committees in their institution or workplace), should be sustained over several years, and should encompass multiple venues (for example, in different organizations, in public outreach, etc.).
Journal Awards
Agricultural and Resource Economics Review also offers annual fellow awards, a young scholar award, and an advisor award.
